Award-winning performing artist Mwila Musonda, popularly known as Slapdee, has pledged to give 50 percent of his earnings from his next event, the ‘Made in Zambia Festival to Celebrate 20 years of Slapdee’, towards the Cancer Diseases Hospital.
In an interview, Mr. Musonda said there is a need to support efforts towards cancer care as it negatively affects livelihoods and current efforts in the area need to be complemented.
“This has been weighing on me for a while. I’ve been meaning to join the cancer walk, the cancer awareness and just support the fight,” he said.
He cited a partnership with humanitarian and activist Chabu Mwila, saying she is one person doing work that needs more people to be involved.
“And I feel like Chabu Mwila is the best person to partner with. She has been doing this single-handedly, putting resources together and taking them to the hospital. She has been promoting awareness and has been supporting these walks for six years,” he said.
“With that being said, I’ve pledged fifty percent (50%) of my earnings from my next show, the Made in Zambia Festival, twenty (20) years of Slapdee. Fifty percent (50%) of my earnings will go to the Cancer Diseases Hospital to support, promote awareness and just lend a hand and a voice to this cause,” he concluded.
