17 PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR ELECTION RELATED OFFENCES ON THE 13TH AND 14TH OF AUGUST

A total of 17 people have been confirmed to have been arrested by police for election related offences on the 13th and 14th of August 2026.

Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba further called on former Nkana Law Maker Binwell Mpundu to surrender himself to police following his viral sentiments on social media.

Mr. Musamba said “while the general conduct of the elections was peaceful, the service recorded isolated incidents in some parts of the country, particularly in Lusaka, Kalomo, Luwingu, Kasama, Isoka, Mafinga, Chingola, Mkushi and Kabompo.”

He explained in a statement that “in Matero, Lusaka province, police have apprehended nine (9) suspects in connection with the alleged murder of Mr. Movemore Chishima, aged 57, a polling agent, who was allegedly assaulted by a group of people on 13th august, 2026 at Kasamba polling station and later died.”

“In a separate incident, police apprehended and detained six (6) male suspects who were found in possession of offensive weapons. The recoveries include nine (9) machetes, twenty-two (22) rounds of ammunition and a Toyota land cruiser motor vehicle bearing registration number bad 8622.” He added further explaining that “in Kalomo, Southern Province, police arrested a suspect following an incident in which four people were assaulted, with one person sustaining a gunshot wound.”

Meanwhile Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi  has refuted allegations circulating on social media that Mr. Opposition Alliance leader Brian Mundubile has been arrested and detained in police custody.

Mr.Chilabi warns that any person who deliberately creates or circulates false information intended to mislead the public may face legal action in accordance with the law.

Mr. Mundubile however shared on his official Facebook page that was being interrogated by officers from the Zambia Army over two videos he released earlier in the day claiming his parallel voter tabulation was indicating that he had won the general election.
