Government has announced plans to amend the Zambia Wildlife Act Number 14 of 2015 to provide for the consolation and compensation of victims of human-wildlife conflict.

Ministry of Tourism Permanent Secretary Evan Muhanga says the proposed amendments are aimed at strengthening protection for communities affected by encounters with wild animals.

Mr. Muhanga says it is important to ensure that people who suffer loss or injury as a result of human-wildlife conflict are adequately compensated.

He says the reforms will help promote coexistence between communities and wildlife while enhancing conservation efforts across the country.

The Permanent Secretary was speaking recently during an event held at Lusaka National Park, where Government also recognized outstanding officers for their bravery, dedication and commitment to wildlife conservation.

The awards acknowledged the officers’ contribution to protecting Zambia’s wildlife resources and supporting the country’s conservation agenda.
