AIPAC Welcomes Constitutional Court Ruling On Acting Auditor General

The Acton Institute for Policy Analysis Centre (AIPAC) has welcomed the Constitutional Court ruling directing the Acting Auditor General to vacate office after reaching the mandatory retirement age.

In a statement, AIPAC Executive Director Solomon Ngoma said the ruling reaffirms the principle that public service must be guided by the law, integrity and respect for institutional frameworks.

Mr. Ngoma said the Acting Auditor General was not eligible to hold the position because he had already retired prior to his appointment, adding that his continued stay in office was therefore irregular from the outset.

He further said the fact that the courts had to intervene raises concerns over the legal advice provided to the appointing authority, arguing that the situation has the potential to undermine public confidence in one of the country’s key oversight institutions.

Mr. Ngoma said the Auditor General’s Office plays a critical role in promoting accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.

He has since called on leaders and public servants to respect retirement requirements and uphold the law, saying integrity and accountability are essential to safeguarding the credibility of public institutions and maintaining public trust.
