The Zambia Police Service has noted with concern a video circulating on social media showing four masked individuals brandishing offensive weapons, namely machetes (commonly known as pangas), while making statements that promote violence.

In a statement, Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said the service has instituted investigations to identify and bring the individuals involved to justice. Our digital forensic officers and detectives are conducting a detailed analysis of the footage to establish the identities of the individuals.

Mr. Chilabi added that the Zambia Police Service reminds members of the public that the possession, display, or use of offensive weapons in a manner that threatens public safety, or promotes violence is a serious offence.

The Service further cautions that any person who uses social media or any other platform to incite violence, issue threats, or encourage criminal activities will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
