The Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council — NGOCC — has condemned alleged violence and intimidation targeting independent aspiring candidate for Chongwe East Constituency, Anita Kamanga.
NGOCC Board Chairperson Beauty Katebe says Ms Kamanga has reportedly faced physical, emotional and online intimidation and threats since the beginning of her campaign.
Ms. Katebe says Ms Kamanga and her supporters have allegedly been attacked on several occasions while preparing for campaign meetings, with one of her supporters arrested and detained following an incident reported to Kanakantapa Police Station.
She says the continued threats and attacks have raised fears for the safety of Ms Kamanga and her campaign team.
