The Department of Immigration has confirmed an incident involving Senior Immigration Officer Masheke Masheke and Jonas Zimba at the Victoria Falls Border Control in Livingstone in the early hours of Monday, 17th August 2026.
According to Department of Immigration Chief Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka, preliminary investigations indicate that Mr. Masheke, who is stationed at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport, allegedly attempted to irregularly facilitate Mr. Zimba’s exit from Zambia.
Mr. Nshinka said the attempt was detected by alert Immigration and Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) officers who were on duty.
He said when officers approached Mr. Zimba, he fled in the direction of Livingstone.
Mr. Masheke is currently detained at Livingstone Central Police Station to assist with investigations.
Mr. Nshinka said serious investigations into the matter are ongoing and appropriate action will be taken once the investigations are concluded.
