The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has resolved to hold a fresh Parliamentary election in Mandevu Constituency of Lusaka District.
In a statement, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said the decision follows a serious security incident that occurred during the aggregation of National Assembly election results following the August 13, 2026 General Elections.
Mr. Kasaro said the Commission received an official report from the Lusaka District Electoral Officer dated August 18, indicating that unknown individuals attacked the Mandevu Constituency totalling centre, destroyed result transmission kits and fled with all the election documentation.
He said the incident rendered the Returning Officer unable to declare the results of the National Assembly election for Mandevu Constituency.
Mr. Kasaro said the Commission has therefore resolved to hold a by-election for Mandevu Constituency on a date that will be communicated in due course.
