The Road Development Agency, RDA, has recorded about 55 percent physical progress on the construction of drainage structures at Kaliuta Crossing Two along the Great East Road in Nyimba District.
The crossing is located between the Kacholola and Mvuwa areas.
The project, which commenced on July 5th, 2026, is expected to be completed by September 5th, 2026.
The works involve replacing the existing metal pipe culvert with reinforced concrete box culverts to improve drainage and protect the road infrastructure.
As of August 23rd, 11 of the 22 required reinforced concrete box culverts, each measuring one-point-eight metres by one-point-eight metres, had been delivered and installed.
The remaining 11 culverts are expected to be installed as the project progresses, followed by the construction of concrete wing walls, backfilling and compaction, and construction of a reinforced concrete pavement deck.
The RDA says the completed works are expected to improve the safe passage of traffic, strengthen the resilience of the Great East Road at the crossing and reduce the risk of road damage caused by inadequate drainage.
The Agency says the ongoing works demonstrate its commitment to maintaining road infrastructure and ensuring safe and reliable connectivity for road users along the important Great East Road transport corridor.
