The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has lifted the suspension on the counting and announcement of election results with immediate effect.
ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis says the lifting of the suspension will pave the way for the announcement of the first set of results at 22:00 hours this evening.
Speaking at the 2026 National Election Results Centre in Lusaka, Ms Zaloumis said the decision follows a review of the security situation.
She said the security threat to the electoral process has been contained and adequate measures have been put in place to prevent further disruptions.
Ms Zaloumis also disclosed that voting has been concluded, with the last polling station closing at 02:00 hours this morning.
She has urged presidential candidates and other stakeholders to desist from announcing unofficial election results and rely on the ECZ for official results.
