The Electoral Commission of Zambia — ECZ — has suspended the counting and announcement of election results across the country following reports of violence in some districts.
In a statement, ECZ chief electoral officer brown kasaro says the violence has targeted polling staff and, in some instances, resulted in the theft of marked ballot papers from ballot boxes.
He says the suspension has been effected with immediate effect due to the security situation and continued threats of violence.
Mr. kasaro says the decision has been made in accordance with Section 67(3) of the Electoral Process Act Number 35 of 2016.
