ZMP Candidate Calls for Upgrading of Barlaston Road

Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) Lima Constituency parliamentary candidate Moffat Sinyangwe has called on the Road Development Agency (RDA) and other relevant stakeholders to prioritise the upgrading of Barlaston Road to bituminous standard.

Mr. Sinyangwe said residents deserve quality infrastructure that improves mobility, enhances public health, stimulates investment, and reflects responsible stewardship of public resources.

He said Lima Constituency, which was recently created, has enormous potential and requires sustainable infrastructure investment to unlock economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for residents.

Mr. Sinyangwe added that residents deserve permanent solutions rather than temporary interventions carried out during election periods.

He noted that the stretch of Barlaston Road from Diana Kaimba School to Nelson Mandela School has remained in a deplorable condition for many years despite repeated appeals from residents for its rehabilitation.

Mr. Sinyangwe further observed that as the country approaches the 2026 General Elections, sections of the road have been subjected to what he described as hurried and unsustainable maintenance works. He said the works have generated excessive dust, exposing residents, businesses, school children and motorists to health risks associated with prolonged dust inhalation while providing little long-term benefit.

He advised the relevant authorities and contractors to reconsider the current maintenance works if they are not part of a programme to upgrade the road to bituminous standard. According to Mr. Sinyangwe, simply filling potholes with soil does not provide value for money and amounts to an inefficient use of scarce public resources.

He stressed that the people of Lima Constituency deserve durable and safe infrastructure capable of supporting economic growth, adding that temporary interventions that are washed away during the rainy season only prolong residents’ suffering and delay meaningful development.
