THE LUSAKA CITY COUNCIL has stepped up the installation of advanced solar-powered streetlights across the city to improve street lighting, enhance road safety and support the growth of a 24-hour economy.
Lusaka City Council Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said the project, being implemented through the Department of Engineering and Infrastructure Development, involves the installation of modern all-in-one solar streetlights while replacing older units that became non-functional due to vandalism and battery theft.
Ms. Mwamba said the new lighting system combines the solar panel, battery and LED light into a single unit, reducing installation and maintenance costs while providing brighter and more reliable lighting.
