11 Apprehended in Kabulonga Militia Raid, Presidential Candidate Found on Scene

Zambia Police have apprehended 11 people in connection with an alleged militia operation in Lusaka’s Kabulonga area, with NRPUP Presidential candidate Mr. Brian Mundubile confirmed to have been present at the scene.

In a statement issued yesterday, Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick K. Kangwa said the joint operation was conducted on the night of 13th August 2026 following a tip-off from members of the public.

Those now in lawful custody and facing various criminal charges include Mr. George Chisanga, Dr. Bishop Trevor Mwamba, Mr. Simon Phiri, Mr. Richard Banda, Mr. Francis Mulenga and Mr. Patrick Mwansa. They are being held at various police stations in Lusaka.

Government said the persons of interest had been under surveillance for several years and were linked to military plans involving foreign nationals and illegal military training camps, which posed a serious threat to state security.

Police seized high-grade military weapons, ammunition and other materials allegedly intended for armed insurrection. During the raid, occupants of the premises fired at law enforcement agents, leading to an exchange of fire. Others fled and their whereabouts remain unknown.

The statement also noted that senior members of certain political parties were found at the premises. The suspects have been charged and will be given access to families and lawyers. Investigations are ongoing.
